A community seminar was held bringing seven young Eritrean professionals and many Eritrean school and college students together at Westminster College on Saturday, January 24, 2009. The professionals shared their experiences and expertise in their respective profession, serving as positive role models for the students. The program was opened with a brief introduction and a welcome message by the organizer of the event Yasmin Sebah, a young Eritrean Law Lecturer at university.

yasmin sebahHeld under a theme “ A day in the life of a …,” the seminar gave the students a chance  to get a real look  in the professional lives including, from the moment they wake up to the time they crawl back into bed, their professional success and the challenges they had overcome. A question and answer session was followed by each presentation, which allowed the students to ask several questions.

The seminar encouraged and motivated the students to think about their interest and future careers and their short and long term goals. Having and forming a personal contact with successful young Eritrean role modes, who the students can relate and associate with, has made the program very successful. The program also provides mentoring to the students on a one-to-one basis in both academic and career support.

The seminar was closed informing the participants about the upcoming events and expressing appreciation and gratitude to the eight professionals, Senait Tesfazghi, a Biomedical Scientist, Susan Yassin, International Business Development and Service Manager, Afrah Faid, an Accountant, Ermias Tesfai, a Bank Manager, Merhawi Woldekirstos, a Senior Program Developer, Shanet Zeru, a Senior Administrator, Rocio Salvador, a Recruitment Consultant, and Hamid Omer, an Actuary.
